Rassistische Kontinuitäten in der BRD und DDR

Die Erzählungen der Abschaffung des Grundrechts auf Asyl und der rassistischen Praxis des deutschen Mobs auf der Straße beginnen vielfach immer noch mit der Wiedervereinigung. Wenngleich die Nachwendezeit ihre eigene Spezifik entwickelte, wollen wir mit Serhat Karakayali und Harry Waibel die oft vernachlässigte Vorgeschichte der frühen Neunziger diskutieren und somit Kontinuitäten rassistischer Praxen und Diskurse in der BRD und DDR analysieren. Dabei sollen auch die Kämpfe der Migration gegen diese Praxen nicht unsichtbar bleiben.

The narrative that is given about the abolition of the right to asylum and the racist activity of the German mob on the streets often begins with German reunification. However, even if the period after reunification developed its own specific characteristics, we want to discuss with Serhat Karakayali and Harry Waibel the often neglected prehistory of the early 1990s, and in doing so analyse the continuity of racist practices and discourses in the FRG and GDR. In the process, the struggles of migrants against these practices should be made visible.
This meeting is organised by the campaign Fight Racism Now! (http://www.fightracismnow.net/), which is organising a nationwide demonstration in Berlin on the 25th of May in order to mark the twentieth anniversty of the abolition of the right to asylum, as well as the twentieth anniversary of the Soligen arson attack, and in the run up to the demonstration is planning various actions and meetings.
